Buffets Sideboards Hutches

Buffet Hutches & Sideboards - Your Dining Room or Living Room Storage Solution

Buffets, hutches and sideboards are the perfect storage solution for your home. Built to store glassware, crockery, silverware, and basically any other household item, they make a great addition to any living room, dining room or hallway.

Some are also purpose built to store and display wine, and come in great use when entertaining friends and family.

Buffets and hutches offer extra storage space for storing your dining accessories. They’re also great for displaying food before being brought to the table, serving drinks, desserts and stacking plates at the end of the night.

House of Home stocks an exciting range of buffets, hutches, sideboards and servers available to purchase online.

What is the difference between Buffets Hutches & Sideboards?

The answer simply is not a whole lot! Interestingly a buffet and a sideboard are exactly the same thing. The name just changes depending on its location in the home. When placed in a living room, it’s referred to as a sideboard. However, when placed in a dining room it becomes a buffet. Go figure!

Traditionally a buffet was used to store dinnerware along with the top being used as a place to serve food from.

A hutch is basically a buffet with the addition of a cabinet above. The cabinet can come with glass doors which allow for objects to be displayed or solid timber doors for those wishing to hide things away.

A side board in a living room is used to store different items such as books, games, paperwork, nick nacks and perhaps old DVD’s if you have them? A sideboard offers the perfect opportunity to create a stylish vignette by adding a lamp, a plant, some décor accessories and mirror or artwork above.

How to choose a buffet or hutch for your home:

Available in a wide range of styles, sizes and finishes, it’s best to consider the desired placement of the buffet or hutch as well as the style of the surrounding furniture in your home before making a purchase.

Styles can include contemporary, oriental, industrial, retro/vintage, rustic or traditional, and the finish can be stained, polished, oiled, painted, gloss or matte. Most are built from timber such as oak, pine or mahogany, and others use metal or MDF.

Buffets and hutches come in varying sizes, so its best to measure the space where you’d like to position it to give you an indication of the most suitable size for the space available.

You also should measure the space from your dining table and chairs to the wall, making sure there will be enough space for people to access their seating without any difficulty.
