How to buy the perfect chair

When it comes to chairs, what type of sitter are you? Do you have a weakness for a spacious, fancy throne, in which you can kick back like royalty? Or do you prefer something more minimal and sleek? Whatever your tastes, you’ll find the right chair for you among our fabulous collection.

1. Is versatility important?

The answer to this will depend on how settled you are in your home – and how permanent your current interior design is. If you’re fixed on everything for life, you can get specific in your tastes because your chair won’t ever have to be moved! If, however, the future is flexible, it’s important to choose a chair that look goods (and fits) in a variety of contexts.

2. How much space do you have?

Living in a palace or homestead? With plenty of space, you can indulge in an enormous recliner. But, if you’re already fighting to fit everything in, you’ll have to be more careful. Either settle for a non-reclining option or consider a wall-saving model, which will still allow you to kick back, but without taking up too much room.

3. Leather, vinyl, wool or cotton?

Choosing the right material is often a matter of deciding how much time you want to spend cleaning! For easy maintenance, microfibre is a great choice. It’s stain-resistant, so if on an enthusiastic evening, you happen to spill a glass of wine across your brand new armchair, you’ll have a better chance of recovering it – just as long as you get paper towels to the scene as soon as possible.

That said, if you’re confident in your ability to avoid messes, you might consider wool. It’s durable and super-comfortable.

Finally, those who are passionate enough about their armchair to take care of regular cleaning and maintenance can go for leather. It is the classic of luxury materials, after all.
