Milan Design Week wrapped up a couple of weeks ago, but the design world is still humming and buzzing with excitement over the brand new lighting design concepts that were unveiled. Famed lighting designers from all over the world were present with their designs; think modern lines, quirky shapes and block colours. Luxury Lighting is what can separate an average home from the amazing home; it becomes the feature piece, the talking point, the piece with a story behind it. Everyone should own at least one luxury light in their lifetime, so take a look at what our top picks of what’s trending in luxury lighting:

Shine Bright

Metallic’s are the ultimate in luxurious lighting. Whether it’s polished chrome, gold or copper, metallics’ make a design statement like no other. Octagonal pendants are never go out of style; adding a touch of metallic gives your light that extra edge. We love the Pendant from Liquid Lighting & Design because it’s extremely modern and striking without being overwhelming or too ostentatious. If you’re living in a traditional home and don’t want to miss this luxury lighting trend, a metallic chandelier such as the Ginetta from Da Voluce is perfect.

Traditional styling but with a modern edge combines to make a killer look.

The Avia Black Chandelier can only be described as a miniature piece of architecture. It’s fluid and complex modern design made it a standout at the Milan Design Week 2014. For something with a little more structure, the Stainless Steel Crystal Pendant features a stunning etchwork that allows you to see the stunning crystal on the inside.

We love white lighting because it is elegant, classic and can be used as a feature light or it can extremely subtle. The Iris R8 Pendant is made from glass and features a stunning intricate wave pattern. The Aragon Pendant has been made from molded paper which gives of a beautiful, soft glow when lit up. Funnelling Around

Funnelling its way onto our Luxury lighting trends list is the funnel pendant. Once just the domain of industrial factories, the funnel pendant has come a long way to now be considered a luxury light. Although the funnel pendant has it’s roots in industrialism, it was seen everywhere at Milan Design Week.

Quirky Lamp

The Quirky Lamp has firmly planted its foot down in the lighting design world. It is a perfect replacement for decorative objects as lamps are both functional and uber stylish. We particularly love the new range of laboratory inspired lamps. With wood making waves in the design world because of its natural beautify, a wooden lamp is the perfect fusion of a retro and contemporary vibe. The Woody Floor Lamp from SLAMP is simple yet striking in its design, luxuriously finishes in timber.
