Creating a Welcoming Entrance

There is nothing like arriving to a fresh welcoming entrance, whether you're arriving home or a visitor. With spring finally (almost!) here we went in search of some styling inspiration for the entrance to your home. Claire is from Luumo Design in Sydney, a gorgeous homewares store, has curated a fresh spring look for your hallway entrance.

The shoot was photographed in a home in North Bondi on a really hot day. Using that as her inspiration, Claire went for a Scandi meets the beach feel, to create a hallway that is both stylish but relaxed and calming.

Claire chose a blond wood console table, with tapered legs as the key piece of furniture for the hallway. The table has two drawers which are handy for all of the bits and pieces that need to be kept near the front door but aren’t easy to make look good – car keys, sunglasses, sunscreen, wallets etc etc.

On top of the console Claire curated a simple but very stylish collection – some fresh flowers, a couple of books, a lamp, and artwork. Clairs chose each piece carefully as she didn’t want to detract from that feeling of calmness as you enter, in particular getting the right piece of artwork was crucial, “I think the artwork by Dan Isaac Wallin gives that feeling of stillness” said Claire.

Claire has the following advice for when you are choosing artwork for your own hallway, “Often one statement piece is good in hallways, or a gallery wall is beautiful and add a real personal touch to the home, with old and new photos and artworks.”

Then as finishing touches – hooks for scarves, hats or in this case the essential Turkish towel seeing you are near the beach in Bondi. And finally add a beautiful plant to bring some greenery and life into the space. Belly baskets make great baskets for plants.

Claire’s tips for creating your own welcoming entrance are "Keep the hallway light, bright and de-cluttered, as it's the first room people often see, so make it inviting and avoid any trip hazzards if you have kids running through the hallways."

With so many beautiful products in her store, it must be hard for Claire to choose a favourite, but if she did have to choose the JDWA Menu concrete lamp and the Menu folded vase are well up there on Claire’s list.
