Style the Perfect Tablescape this Winter

Style the Perfect Tablescape this Winter

As the cold weather sets in (and it has definitely set in), so does our desire to remain indoors and retreat to a glass of red and a good book for company. However, just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean life has to be lived in the style of a recluse, on the contrary in fact.

Winter is the perfect opportunity to entertain friends; from dinner parties to cocktail making evenings, cooking, creating and playing host at a few social gatherings will make winter fly by!

Rather than dust off the fine china, bring out the crystal and spark up the somewhat already melted candles, impress your guests by upgrading your tableware, then get the creative juices flowing by dressing up and styling your dinner table for a soiree to remember.

Tablescapes are created around social events so to its important they have visual impact, without appearing too busy. The trick is to create balance by layering shape, pattern or texture to form a visually interesting table top that looks cool and collected rather than cramped or cluttered.

Allowing some white space on the table will help to lift everything and allow the dinnerware to really 'pop'. The easiest way to achieve this is by using a crisp white linen table cloth as your base and then adding dinnerware or servingware in a contrasting colour to enliven the tablescape.

The table top trends for Winter 2016 are sophisticated, moody, rich, warm and luxurious. There is an increasing popularity in neutral earthy toned and monochromatic tableware, including matte black, tan or white flatware, charcoal grey servingware and dark marble highlighted by warm metallics such as brass, bronze and copper. An essential element, to bring a little glitz and glamour to the table.

Put the silverware aside, brass and copper cutlery is the new metal finish to garnish ones plate. Tan leather accents are also finding their way onto the table in the form of candle holders and decorative bowls.

There are so many stunning new flatware, servingware and dinnerware collections available through the House of Home website, below are just a few to inspire your Winter entertaining endeavours.
