We’ve always needed lighting in our homes, but shopping for lights has become so much more fun with endless stylish, affordable lighting options available and so many places online to find inspiration.
While people used to only buy lights once - when they built or renovated their home - they are now able to choose new lights every season. Luckily, Melbourne is home to some of the best shopping in the nation (and beyond!), and that includes lighting stores.
Below are some of the best independent lighting stores Melbourne has to offer to help you plan your next shopping trip.
Creative Lighting was based in Eltham for most of its history, before moving to its new concept showroom in Blackburn earlier this year. The store was established in 1997, and eventually bought by its current Design Directors, Jillian Pool and Damian Costello. With over 30 years of experience in lighting design, they say, “our endeavour is to create beautifully illuminated spaces, for the people who inhabit them”. Creative Lighting offers consulting and design services, and also hold in-house events for industry and design professionals.

Lighting Lighting Lighting is a purely online lighting store based in Melbourne, created to be accessible to everyone. They offer beautiful designer pieces you can buy from the comfort of your own home. Without a physical showroom and the costs of consultation and design, customers can save. As they say on site, “we believe that everyone has the right to beautiful lights, no matter what your budget is”.

Liquid Lighting is a boutique lighting design and supply service based in Moorabbin. “We are passionate about achieving an emotion through lighting; lighting that can enhance or evoke a feeling, to create a unique atmosphere in your space.” Liquid Lighting has customers throughout Australia, Asia & Europe. In addition to their design consultancy, they have an online lighting store accessible through their website.
Address: Unit 5/2-6 Independence Street, Moorabbin, 3189
Tida Lighting was “born due to a demand for a company to be able to supply many different lighting products under the one roof, as most electrical wholesalers have now closed their lighting departments.” Tida Lighting provide lights for both commercial and retail applications of all size. They also sell lights on their website, so you can find something without even having to leave the comfort of your own home.
Address: 4/810 Mountain Hwy, Bayswater, 3153
Okay, this one is admittedly a bit of a wildcard, since they’re not technically a lighting store Melbourne has on offer. Their Mildura showroom might not be one of the best lighting stores in Melbourne, but it is definitely one of the best lighting stores in Victoria. DeLights was established in 1978 in South Australia (Anzac Highway), launching a second store in SA (Holden Hill) before opening their Mildura store about 18 years ago. They are a family owned business, whose motto is “We specialise in innovation”. If you’re up for the drive or working on a project and want one of their consultants to come to you, it’s well worth your while.
Address: 67 Fifteenth Street, Mildura, 3500
Whatever your next project, there’s a Melbourne lighting store for you, so be sure to take a look at these before you hit the shops.
