Nestled in a quite cul de sac on the fridge of Prahan and Armadale is this quaint yet striking four bedroom period home. Now home to Konrad Spilva. CEO of Isobar, and Hannah Donovan, Co-founder of LVLY, this newly engaged couple are loving the space, tranquility and natural light that this new home offers.
“The natural light is what drew our attention when we saw the house listed for auction," Hannah
“We came to have a look and just fell in love with the place immediately given all that natural light, large windows and great spaces. It’s also close to where we both work and we love being able to ride to work or down to Albert Park,” commented Hannah.
Hannah is originally from England so the period features of the home really attracted her as she has grown up in old cottage style homes most of her life. The double french doors flanking the front entrance, dark timber floors and high ceilings were just some of the features that really caught her eye.
When you step through the front door the traditional corridor lures you further into a gorgeous cozy formal living room. The fireplace has recently been converted back to an original wood fire as opposed to keeping it as a gas log fire. The previous owner did a major renovation, so the bathrooms are all modern, clean and white, yet there are still plenty of original features left to enjoy. The main bathroom features a sunken bath with skylight and shower rose in the ceiling.
Little quirks add to the character of the home and the door adjoining to lounge to the kitchen is justone great example with the lead light window and ornate wrought iron feature for all enjoy. Perhaps it was the original front door, but either way, it’s great that the previous owners thought to keep it in the house.
Continue further down the house and the kitchen is a wonderful modern addition that blends in perfectly with the period features. It is a great use of natural tones with stone bench tops and recessed cupboards that even hide the fridge.
Hannah and Konrad loved the timber trestle table adjoining the kitchen bench so much that they purchased it off the previous owners.
The back of the home opens up to a large sunken dining/living room which is surrounded by full height sliding windows, so in the warmer weather, you can open them up and enjoy that indoor/outdoor living.
“Even with the doors closed, having all that wonderful greenery around the room is very calming and inviting.” Hannah.
The home is furnished and styled with an eclectic mix of second hand, vintage and bespoke furniture, comfy large sofa’s and loads of personal touches.
“I do love getting our favourite images or prints framed and hanging them on the wall," Hannah.
Being co-founder of a company that provides special curated gifts and flowers around Melbourne, there is always a fresh bunch or two of blooms around the home which Hannah just loves. “Who doesn’t love having fresh flowers in the house? They are one the simplest ways to brighten up any space,” says Hannah.
Upstairs there is the addition of two extra bedrooms, however Hannah and Konrad have plans to add an ensuite up there. Stay tuned as we may feature a before and after about how that process unfolds!
Konrad's favourite room of the house is the open plan lounge and is looking forward to summer barbecues when he can open up the large doors and invite friends over.
Hannah's favourite is “Bob's Room." "Bob is the wooden dear head in the formal lounge and I love its original features like the open fireplace and the french doors which create a beautiful dappled light with the vines growing outside. The character of the room makes it the perfect space to relax and it will also always be my favourite room because it’s where Konrad proposed to me on our first night in our house,” recalls Hannah fondly.
Brenda, and the House of Home Team, would like to thank Hannah and Konrad for letting us Step In Side their amazing home.
