The Builders Daughter is a boutique store in East Malvern offering a collection of designer homewares which are hand crafted and beautifully made, with a kind of Scandinavian meets Brooklyn aesthetic.
Showcased in a gorgeous space that is friendly, welcoming and free of pretence, the Builders Daughter is focused on helping their customers find a perfectly crafted item for their home or a gift for friends, family and loved ones.
Located on Waverley Road in Melbourne, we stopped by to chat with founder Leigh Kitching about her store, and of course to delve into their beautifully curated collection of homewares and decorative accents.
Tell us about The Builders Daughter.
Inspired by my Father, I opened The Builders Daughter in 2015. I wanted to make it easy for my customers to be able to surround themselves with superior homewares. Born to shop I love good quality, affordable and honest items, and I have sourced only the best for The Builders Daughter.
What can we expect when we come in store?
You can expect to find well crafted, earnest items that will bring a smile to your face. You will also find some different things that you won't need to travel to Brunswick for.
Tell us about your favourite products at the moment?
I love Otto and Spike knitwear, it’s made in Melbourne from a family based company. I love our caked boxes from Boxed (the most stylish way to carry your food). I also love our Eco Bee wraps which eliminate the need to use glad wrap.
What makes your store special?
It’s very personal, I only have 2 staff members so we will always remember you, treat you with the utmost respect and never push a sale. My stock sells its self.
What is your favourite question from a customer?
Where do you source all these amazing things?
What is your favourite part of the work day?
Merchandising and updating the store. We are constantly moving things around to keep it looking fresh and inspired, it also keeps the customers and staff on their toes.
