Arriving at Rich Glen Olive Estate off the Murray Valley Highway just a short drive from Yarrawonga and you could mistake this landscape of outdoor dining, landscaped gardens, sculptures and people enjoying a casual lunch as always being here. Well, only in 2013 did owners Daimien and Ros decide to take the plunge and turn their commercial Olive Oil business into something more.
Prior to Rich Glen being a great place for food, coffee, oil and other amazing produce, the homestead was in fact the family home to Daimiens parents, Frac and Marija Vodusek, when they purchased the property back in the early 1980’s. Some major renovations enabled now married Daimien and his wife Ros to turn this property into the thriving business it is today.
"It was paramount that we kept the character. The home is a real mix of Edwardian, bungalow and Tudor. The walls and floors were painted green so we bought the original timbers back to their natural glory. We also dolled up the pressed tin and made leadlight windows to match the front entrance.” Ros | Owner.
It is clearly evident that this homestead is not just a place to function their business from, but a real love and homely place and as soon as you walk in the front door, the character speaks for itself with a striking counter, the deep timbers of the Tudor style ceiling and the vibrancy of their products.
“We love when customers walk in and they say… Wow!” Ros | Owner.
Creating a look that is both homely and practical in a business is a tricky balance and Damien and Roz have certainly hit the right notes. Practical shelving line their products, whilst using baskets, and displaying stunning antique furniture pieces create a comforting ambience. They even have a collection of mismatched baskets for your shopping.
The outdoor area is a marvel in its own right with more seating outdoors than in and is an interactive space whilst also being visually and aesthetically beautiful. The undercover area includes an upright piano, a mix of furniture and collection of church pews.
“We had a friend, Pam Rudd, who is a garden designer make the garden productive, interactive, interesting and fun for all.” Ros | Owner
And what about all those olive trees? 36,000 in total over 300 acres and all the oil is pressed onsite as is all the other products Rich Glen now offer, from dips, sauces, beauty products and jams.
“We grow herbs, veggies, bush tucker, botanical flowers for our skin care as well as citrus and stone fruit for our jams, etc.”
When asked about the best part of her day at Rich Glen, Ros says...
“We just love starting out by picking the vegies and roses first thing, organising the tables and chairs outside for the lunch rush. Our cliental are always happy vacationers and every day is an absolute pleasure. We love it!"
Rich Glen is opened every day during the week from 9am - 4pm and on weekends from 10am - 4pm. For more information check out their website Rich Glen Olive Oil
