Spring Racing Carnival, those three words are synonymous with ultra creativity, fashion, decadence and design. Nowhere is this embraced with more flair and fanfare than at Flemington’s famous birdcage, where the most incredible temporary spaces are created. A year’s planning can go into the design and development of Birdcage ‘homes’, something the team at Lavazza know only too well. For a decade now Lavazza has wowed race-goers with its birdcage marquees that imbue the quality, heritage and sophistication of the brand.
2013 promises to be no exception, with this year’s design brief drawing inspiration from ‘La Passeggiata’, the time-honoured Italian tradition of taking a walk after enjoying a beautiful meal together. So whilst Lavazza finds inspiration from la dolce vita of the passeggiata, we’ve in turn taken a leaf from their book to come up with some gorgeous home décor ideas for you.
So just what will the Lavazza marquee look like? When race goers step inside this year’s marquee, they will immediately notice an interior awash with contemporary monochrome and metallic theming. This is especially striking on the black and white floor.
Cow Hide rugs have some fabulous flooring options in bold black and whites that will give any interior a jolt of confidence. This Assembly Hall hand woven rug combines a monochrome palette with an equally strong design that really captures the eye.
The Lavazza marquee’s furniture echoes the old-school charm of a traditional trattoria, no doubt the perfect setting to enjoy a Lavazza espresso, but also a great source of inspiration for us and our kitchen designs. These fabulous Hamptons style bistro dining chairs and stools from Maison Bleue are a wonderful blend of laid-back practicality and casual dining elegance.
If you’re planning to take spring racing celebrations outdoors and you’re on the look-out for al fresco furniture, then this design from Cotswold is another great option.
The Lavazza marquee this year features two remarkable chandeliers, tailor-made from more than 230 Plumm Glassware pieces. One-of-a-kind artwork, the chandeliers are nonetheless a wonderful source of inspiration for particularly innovative lighting in the home. Take for instance this slice of 18th century style from Imagine This. We’re also a big fan of Zuku Trading’s wrought iron look chandelier.
2013 is the eleventh consecutive year Lavazza has featured at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, during which time it has hosted some internationally-recognised names including Snoop Dog, Dita Von Teese, Alessandro Del Piero, Roberto Cavali and Mena Suvari. Although somewhat unlikely any of these celebrities would be dropping in on our Cup celebrations at home, that shouldn’t stop us finding a great bottle of Prosecco, pouring the occasional long black and enjoying some spring racing fever. If you happen to be freshening up your home this season, then we hope the inspiration we’ve taken from the Lavazza Birdcage might just provide some of the sophisticated Italian interior ideas you’ve been looking for…
