Who Won House Rules?

Last night’s nail biting finish to Channel Seven’s popular home renovation show House Rules was every bit as satisfying an ending as we hoped for.

Father, daughter duo Steve and Tiana Falzon, from NSW, fought it out with Queensland couple Ben Edgeworth and Danielle Russell, for the ultimate prize to completely pay off their mortgage.

With two completely different room briefs, you couldn’t ask for a more intriguing last episode. The finalists were tasked with one last renovation challenge of transforming their corresponding garages into a usable entertainment space.

After revealing both rooms and a nail-biting finish, NSW’s team The Falzons took out the trophy with their Ralph Lauren inspired lounge, defeating QLD's Ben and Danielle's 1950’s Jukebox Diner inspired retreat.

The father daughter battlers who stole Australia’s hearts were a clear favourite to win. The underdog of the show, they came in on top after beginning the competition with the lowest starting score in House Rules history.

It was clear from their reaction that the win came as a complete surprise for the family. Steve and Tiana were both overwhelmed by the win, expressing shock, excitement and some tears, both claimed that they were ‘completely blown away’. Steve and Tiana were quick to shower each other in praise, Steve was particularly touched by the entire journey after Tiana signed them up to compete without his knowledge. It was evident from their reaction that the win meant the world to both and the rest of their family.

“Since her mother passed away, she stepped up and took over took care of the house. I owe Tiana everything, she’s an awesome kid and I love her to death.” Steve said.

The duo revealed their secret room, a Neo-Grecian inspired lounge room, inspired by Danielle's wish for a Ralph Lauren catalogue styled room. It was an elegant, classical and an understated room; emitting simplicity and delicate styling. The pair effortlessly completed the iconic look with a Chester Field sofa, crystal barware and paired back furnishings. The choice of bold colouring of navy walls with a vivid white cornices provided an attractive and stylish finish to the room.

Neo-Grecian Style

It was clear after the reveals that the Father Daughter team had outdone themselves with the Ralph Lauren entertainer’s paradise, with its designer garden shed, bar, wine fridge and hidden pantry doors. Although Ben and Danielle lost the 2015 title they were gracious in their defeat, complimenting the NSW Team on their efforts. We have no doubt that this young Brisbane pair will be making waves on our screens again some time soon.

What a journey it has been for both couples, with both reveals completely different, the effort that went into both rooms was an inspiration for many viewers. A beautiful finish to one of Australia’s highest rating reality shows, we want to say congratulations to both competing finalists, however we couldn’t think of more deserving winners than Steve and Tiana.
