During the London Design Festival this September, leading fabric and wallpaper house Osborne & Little launched a new collection of fabrics and wall coverings designed exclusively for the O&L brand by British Fashion Designer Matthew Williamson and renowned interior designer and stylist Nina Campbell.
House of Home were invited to attend Osborne and Little’s ‘meet the designers’ day at their gorgeous Chelsea based showroom in London. The launch offered the opportunity to chat with these two incredibly talented designers and learn more about the inspiration behind their new collections. We are very excited to be able to share their latest work first hand with you.
The ever inspirational Matthew Williamson who is internationally renowned for his flamboyant fashion designs, launched his third collection which conjures up images of tropical and exotic far flung destinations with a vibrant contemporary twist.
The DURBAR collection captures images of India with a lighthearted approach consisting of playful scenes of landscapes and animals. Matthew’s use of traditional paisley and damask designs are interpreted with a modern hand to pay homage to India whilst keeping each design usable and workable in any space.
The collection consists of eight different fabric designs and nine different wall paper designs. Each of the three collections are brilliantly inspiring. All convey bold colour and vivid patterns in keeping with Matthew’s signature style.
Our top three favourites; MENAGERIE, AZARI and NARISSA are shown below.
The Menagerie fabric and wallpaper range playfully depicts a scene of fantastical Birds of Paradise spreading their plumes, while mischievous monkeys run along snaking vines, amongst exotic blooms and butterflies encircling a decorative heart. We absolutely love the hot house tones, fresh mint, lavender and lime!
“I would happily use this design in any room from bathroom to bedroom to give some character and playful personality”. | MW
The Azari fabric and wallpaper range features a magnificent display of peacock feathers depicted in lace-like line-drawing, the monochrome use of colour results in a very modern damask.
“A reoccurring motif within my work, I never tire of the peacock’s majestic, symmetrical beauty. I wanted to capture its essence but in a fresh new way so set about a graphic repeat pattern using solid blocks of colour and treating the design as if it were a fine, intricately woven lace”. | MW
The Narissa wallpaper design includes a worldly traveller’s collection of butterflies and Indian artefacts are displayed in decorative frames. Butterflies are an iconic motif of Matthew’s brand and as such he has been collecting them in frames, paintings, postcards and the like for years.
“I love the contemporary effect and drama this wallpaper would bring to any room. I’ll no doubt be using it at home and layering even more imagery on top of it so it’s almost like a live ever-changing mood board!” | MW
World renowned Interior Designer Nina Campbell introduced her new collection with a truly international flavour and sense of refinement. Her designs were inspired by different continents and periods of history for contemporary international interiors. Indigo features prominently in Nina’s colour palette as does coral, aqua, chocolate and teal combined with quieter tones of stone, charcoal and ivory.
Nina’s collection includes eight fabric designs and eight wall paper designs. They are all beautiful which made it very tricky to choose between them.
Our top three favourites: 'PALMETTO', 'PAVILLION GARDEN', and 'GIOCONDA' are shown below.
ThePalmetto fabric and wallpaper range boasts large scale tonal palm leaves form elegant columns. Inspired by vacations in the Bahamas, the design depicts a classic combination of green palm leaves set against a blue sky.
“I love the architectural quality of the design, especially in the charcoal and stone.” | NC
The Gioconda is a glamorous fabric collection, featuring metallic effects, such as foil, shiny embroidery and satin weave. Its rich opulent colours include chocolate, topaz, aqua and coral embellished with silver, gold and bronze. A delectable palette, good enough to eat!
The Pavillion Garden fabric and wallpaper includes an enchanting scene of elegant sari-clad ladies in a blossom laden garden. The design was inspired by a document, it’s full of character... and naughty monkeys!
