A Charming Modern Family Home

Maior and Luke, together with their two children, have been living in their new home for just over three years. This light filled and airy home is nestled upon the rise of a new estate over looking a small country town in North East Victoria and, is a wonderful blend of modern comfort with classic country style.

The stone work and traditional frontage is something that Maior and Luke were especially wanting, so as to capture a style that would not easily date. The recent addition of the timber and wire fence completes the home and new plantings have been made with the plan they will grow up through the wire creating that country cottage garden feel.

Upon entering the home, the high ceiling and large open plan living areas and hallway invite you into a space that is a wonderful blend of contemporary and classic. The all white kitchen is compact and functional. Upon further investigation, thoughtful planning has the large butlers pantry secluded nearby where the fridge is located as well as the oven.

“All the meal preparation is done in the butlers pantry and this helps to really free up the actual kitchen space,” Maior | Home Owner

During the planning stage of their build, Maior and Luke spent many a weekend driving around looking at other homes to get inspiration as well as compiling a collection of clippings from magazines.

“We then roughly sketched out a plan combining all the things we wanted and, thought would work, then took that sketch to a local architect who could officially draw up some plans.” Maior | Home Owner.

The must haves are obvious as you walk around the home. Maior confirms that they wanted to maximise the views with lots of windows which would create great natural light and, have high ceilings to give the house a wonderful loftiness.

The home is heated with a wood fire in the main living area and wall heaters down the corridor for extra warmth for the bedrooms. The windows are double glazed and window furnishings help keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer also.

“Our first home was 12 squares, dark and the rooms just didn’t function well. So, when it came to building our home we instantly knew we wanted space and functionality to be the key.” Maior | Home Owner

As I'm shown around the gorgeous open plan living area, filled with antique and vintage finds, Maior comments that “I don’t really feel I have a style, but I do love collecting vintage pieces and things with meaning."

The home is filled with a great collection of country style and industrial vintage style. Old medical cabinets filled with vintage books, small nooks made for sitting with comfy armchairs and side tables brimming with trinkets.

The bedrooms are located down a light filled hallway and the children have been given their own room and certainly added their own flair. Maior’s daughter chose a pink and white scheme, with Maoir sourcing some antique furniture pieces. Overall, the room is sweetly styled with florals and lovely neutral linen.

The main bathroom is a wonderful example of embracing modern elements with traditional style. The claw-foot bath and pressed metal on the wall give this room a traditional element and the style is carried through with the antique touches of furnishings really making this a statement room.

Maior and Luke haven't yet decorated their master bedroom which is generous in size and has an ensuite and walk in wardrobe.

“We just haven’t got around to it yet, I have ideas but our bedroom is something that I don’t mind if it evolves as we live here.” Maior | Home Owner

Outside, the living area has an amazing deck that is the central social gathering point. With the natural slop of the block, the elevated deck overlooks the rooftops below and allows you to gaze directly out over the town.

“We love sitting out on the deck, with friends. It’s a great casual space," commented Maior.

When asked how they found the building process, Maior commented "I really enjoyed it and would do it all again! Maybe when the kids grow up and move out, Luke and I will build again!"

A big thank you to Maior and Luke for welcoming Brenda and House of Home into your home.
